Howard Hildenbrand

Hildenbrand, Howard J. Webster, NY: February 2, 2014. Predeceased by his sisters, Ruth Cannon of Grand Rapids, MI, Mary Carter of Strongsville, OH and Faith Hildenbrand. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Hildenbrand; son, Bruce (Susan) Hildenbrand; grandchildren, Jack and Megan Hildenbrand. Howard was a WWII Navy Veteran and an engineer at General Motors for over 30 years. Noel Stasel

Noel E. Stasel, 85, of Louisville, died Sunday, March 16, 2014. Noel was a mechanical engineer and a 37 year employee of the General Motors Corporation, working for the Chevy Motor Division, Vauxhaul Motors, and the GM headquarters in Detroit. He was an avid gardener, car and computer enthusiast, and enjoyed traveling and camping with family and friends. Noel was preceded in death by his parents, Noel and Elisabeth Stasel, and his sister Norma Amos. He is survived by his wife Joan, of 61 years; daughters, Susan Stasel, Laura Stasel, Julia Stasel (Jim Nelson), Sarah Shay (Chris), Linda Ross (Mark) and Judith Stasel (Mark Kramer); his son Noel Stasel; his grandchildren, Logan Ross, Samantha Shay, Alexandria Shay, Cassandra Kramer, Alana Kramer, Kevin Kramer; his sister Betty Jean Stasel; and nephew Charles ‘Tim’ Ware (Vickie). Visitation will be 2:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday at Pearson’s Funeral Home, 149 Breckenridge Lane. His celebration of life Mass will be Friday at 9:30 AM at Church of the Epiphany, 914 Old Harrods Creek Road with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Gene King

January 04, 1933 – May 27, 2014 Eugene King, a resident of White Lake for 23 years, and previously a resident of Rochester Hills for 20 years, passed away on May 27, 2014 at the age of 81. Survived by Margaret M. King, his beloved wife of 55 years; children, Stephen King, Scott King, Melissa King-Polsinelli; grandchildren, Austin King, Lauren King, Leah King, Alexander King, Nikolas Polsinelli, Olliver Polsinelli; sisters, Margaret King and Deborah Morgan. Eugene was preceded in death by son, Kevin King Funeral Liturgy will be held from St. Mary Our Lady of the Snows, 1955 E. Commerce St., Milford on Saturday, May 31, at 10 O’clock. Fr. Dick Miller

Richard J. ‘Dick’ Miller, 87, died peacefully Tuesday, May 27, 2014, with his daughter at his side at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He was born April 21, 1927, in Hamtramck, to John & ‘Jan’ Janina Miller (nee Gontarczyck) and graduated from Hamtramck High School in 1945. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in fine art from Wayne State University. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe, working as a butcher, a weather forecaster and in military intelligence, transporting captured high-ranking enemy officers. Mr. Miller worked 38 years for General Motors Corp. as an illustrative engineer. He was a boss, a mentor and a friend to many of his employees. He had many interests and hobbies. He spent many hours meticulously making perfect replicas of miniature sleds, tables and chairs, ladders and other household items for his daughter’s dollhouse. Gardening, building a rock garden and tending to the flowers in his front and back yards while listening to Detroit Tigers baseball games was a favorite pastime. He was a fan of opera, the symphony and he enjoyed going to the art institute. He also stained and assembled furniture he used to decorate his home. His family said Mr. Miller was a fierce and feisty Democrat and supported his party in many ways. He rarely missed an opportunity to tell someone they were wrong by not being a Democrat. He had a great sense of fairness and decency and longed to see a world where all people were treated equally. Mr. Miller is survived by his daughter, Janna Marie Miller Midura and her husband, Thomas, of Chicago; grandchildren, Katherine, Alexander and Elizabeth; brother, Thaddeus Miller (Dolores); sister, Halina Bielaniec; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Miller. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Casmer Miller; brother-in-law, Harry Bielaniec, and former wife, Josephine Miller. Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 8, at A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack, Grosse Pointe Woods, with rosary recitation at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, June 9, at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church, 157 Lakeshore, Grosse Pointe Farms. Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m. at the church.

Dave Durnford

DURNFORD, DAVID J. age 84 August 25, 2014 Beloved husband of Evelyn for 63 wonderful years. Loving father of Charlie (Pam), Barbara McKolay, Diane (Mike) Lowes and Carol (Ted) Toloff. Loving grandfather of Kelly, Jodi, Michelle, Erica, Dylan, Alex, Andrew, Madison and Katelyn. Proud great grandfather of David, Kendall and Jackson. Dave retired from Chevrolet Engineering in 1990 after 34 years. He enjoyed 24 years of retirement wintering in Florida with his wife and was an avid golfer. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all of his many friends. A celebration of Dave’s life will be held on Saturday, September 6th from 11:30am – 2:30pm at the American-Polish Century Club, 33204 Maple Lane (14 Mile & Hoover) in Sterling Hts. Lunch begins at 12:30.

Kathleen Sheean

On November 13, 2014, Kathleen Ellen ( Sheehan ) Sheean passed away at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital She was born in Los Angeles, CA on August 28, 1937 and grew up in Grosse Pointe Michigan graduating from St. Paul’s High School in 1955. After attending Michigan State University she studied Art at the Collage For Creative Studies and then joined the Commercial Art Group at GM Photographic. In 1960 she married Michael Sheean and they have two sons, Michael Jr. and Timothy Patrick. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and involved in here community. In 1998 they retired in Boyne City where she was active in the Eta Nu Woman’s Charity, Boyne Valley Garden Club, Saint Mathew’s Parish, Boyne City Yacht Club and other local organizations. Her family and friends will celebrate her life with a visitation on Sunday, November 16, 2014 from 3 to 6 PM at the Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mathew’s Church in Boyne City on Monday, November 17, 2014 at 11 AM with visitation being held at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Fr. Denny Stillwell will be serving as the celebrant.

George Miotke

George J. Miotke, Jr. Age 82. November 23, 2014. Co-founder and past President, along with his wife Patricia, of the Chevrolet Engineering Retirees Club (CERC). He is survived by his wife Patricia, daughter Jill (Paul Garfield), sister Suzanne B.A. Staats, nephew Gary Staats, nieces Laura (Grant Zobel), Jennifer Staats, and Brenda Staats (Mike Smith), as well as numerous cousins. George died at his home of cancer after years of being high risk heart patient. He was born in Detroit, served in the U.S. Navy, lived in Sterling Heights and finally in Bloomfield Hills. In addition to CERC, he and his wife Pat were also very active in the Bloomfield Township Public Library and Cranbrook Gardens. Mr. Miotke and Patricia A. Nelson were married on May 6th, 1953 at St. David’s Church in Detroit when he was home on leave from the Navy. George and Pat then moved to Oakland, California to make their home before returning to Michigan. He retired from Chevrolet Engineering Center at the Warren Technical Center after 31 years of service in the Research and Development Department as a Senior Transmission Designer. He worked on vehicles five to eight years in the future, as well as on the design and build of the Jim Hall and Hap Sharp 2-Series Chaparral Group 7 race cars and the Mark Donahue race cars. He also worked on the Corvair litigation court room displays. The Research and Development Department was profiles in the book “Chevrolet=Racing…?”, by Paul VanValkenburg.

Carl Vogel

Carl W. Vogel Jr., 77, a resident of Washington Township since 1994 and previously from Armada/Romeo/Royal Oak, passed away at his home on Friday, Dec. 26, 2014. Carl was born Feb. 28, 1937, in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Carl W. and Mary (Brondier) Vogel. He married the former Susan Heidi on Feb. 15, 1986, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Romeo. Carl retired from General Motors as a design supervisor on Sept. 1, 1991 after 34.2 years of service. He served his country in the National Guard. Carl was the longest serving Romeo Lions Club member serving as its “Tail Twister” for many years. He helped out with the demolition derby during the Peach Festival for the many years that it ran and was a well known announcer during the Peach Festival Parade. He loved all types and models of cars and was well known in the golfing community. He had a golf swing that couldn’t be duplicated. Carl is survived by his wife Susan; children Tony (Michelle) Vogel of Shelby Township, Jeff (Sherry) and Mark (Kim) Vogel, both of Troy, Chris (Sue) Jones of Temperance and Ashley (Jesse) Jones of Dallas, Texas. He is also survived by grandchildren Matt, Anthony, Amada, Zachary, Eva, Nathan, Teddy, Colin, Ewan, Liam, and Henry.Visitation: 1-8 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 28, Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo. Services: 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 29, at the funeral home with Rev. A. Raymond Babin officiating.
